Installing and using your Autolycus Pickup:
Here is what the Autolycus Pickup offers.
Good tone: The pickup is mounted on the body of the fiddle. This enhances the lower frequency response. The Autolycus pickup is held close to the soundpost picking up ALL the tonal complexities of the instrument from which they are derived. Handling noise is not an issue when playing. The pickup may also be moved along the f hole for subtle but non-critical tone preferences. One spring clip and two ties hold the pickup in place. (Autolycus-"Snapper up of inconsidered trifles")

Good output volume: High sensitivity and optimum positioning initiate a good signal to noise ratio at the true source of the sound for subsequent amplification.
NO Acoustic Muting: Muting in not an issue with this mounting due to the insignificant relative mass and positioning of the pickup. The pickup does not interfere with the sensitive bridge or the transfer of string vibrations.
NO Adhesives or Screws: Only a rubber covered spring clip holds the pickup in position and small cable ties secure the cable to the tail piece. This allows Fitting in two or three minutes with modest care. No particular expertise is needed. Modifications are not required to any instrument. The possibility of damage or marks to an instrument is minimised. The spring clip is re-usable, a standby instrument could be quickly fitted if necessary with only a couple of extra cable ties - or even some "emergency string"!
If you are concerned at dropping the clip into the instrument, attach a temporary cotton
The pickup is fitted with a RCA female connector to match the male plug on the Autolycus Pedal. To plug directly into a different amplifier a short cable is recommend and would usually require a '1/4 inch' jack plug on one end and a RCA male plug on the other end for the Autolycus pickup.

Now, what do you do when the vocalist gives you the nod for that lead-break when you're not expecting it? .
 No problem...
with an Autolycus PEDAL!

The AUTOLYCUS PEDAL
A footpedal-switch toggles a 'normal' volume level which is set at the main amplifier, and a preset higher volume as required for that 'lead-break'. The higher volume is set on the pedal up to a maximum signal voltage gain of approximately times 3.

The input impedance is nominally 1Mohm to suit the needs of high impedance pickups, and particularly the Autolycus pickup.

The output impedance is low and will feed almost any normal amplifier input.

The housing is robust and virtually unbreakable.

Battery life is LONG. 9v internal. Current drain 240 microamps-LED off. LED on, less than 1.5mA. The 'LED' is only to indicate high volume toggle. The output jack is the switch. Battery life can extend to years rather than months under average usage especially if the LED is not on for long periods.

The battery supply is disconnected when the output jack is removed. The input cable is integral with the housing.

Setting up hints: Make all connections (with the main amp volume low). With the PEDAL' LED' off adjust "normal" volume levels and tone on the main amplifier. Then toggle the LED on and preset the higher volume level. A dab of the foot can now assist that lead-break whilst playing. The advantages of this pedal will be realized by all who play electric fiddles.

No attachments to the player are needed. Good freedom of movement is maintained.
The RCA connectors do not appear to pull apart under normal playing. I have not experienced this in over six years of playing. In the miserable event however, that someone's foot hooks a cable, it might be hoped it would pull free and reduce/ avoid damage.

The optimum electrical match for piezo pickups is achieved with this pedal/ preamp and the fixed input cable length into the preamp minimises further signal degradation.
Individual preferences vary, don't be afraid to experiment. Use tone controls provided on main amplifiers. A short echo can be useful to enhance tone and volume as a preference.
This pedal may be fitted with a standard 1/4 inch jack plug. It can enhance the performance of almost any high impedance transducer including those for guitars.

No liability for damage will be accepted from the use of this product.
